Gary Seveny – Chairman

Gary Seveny has enjoyed a successful career in the financial services industry. His career spans several decades of executive leadership and being a center of influence within the industry.


He proudly led Alterna Savings and Credit Union, as President and CEO, to establish Alterna Bank of Canada in 2000 as one of the first banks under the revised Bank Act. During his tenure, he led several mergers and acquisitions including the merger of Metro Credit Union to form Alterna Savings and Credit union. Throughout his career, Gary has been involved in transactions in excess of a billion dollars.


Seveny served in governance roles with Payments Canada, Interac and several payment services entities in Canada and USA. He was instrumental acquiring a US Bank and repatriating full ownership of a successful financial investment firm. Seveny has been an active advocate for regulatory changes in the payments system and the banking industry. Currently, he is Chairman of the Boards of Apaylo Finance and Technology, Yorkville Asset Management and serves as Director of Telpay Inc.

Yash Shukla – Managing Director

Yash leads aspects related to identification of investment opportunities, strategy  development and execution, financing, and ensuring corporate performance is maximized. He  identifies, manages and negotiates M&A activity to its completion.


He always aims to build trust and partner with founders and management of growth-oriented companies. The group of experienced business executives understand in depth what it takes to own and operate successful businesses, but also the importance of protecting the legacy of the business.


He proudly takes a vision and makes into a reality through sound strategy development. He intuitively sees threads of opportunity that wind through an organization, brings them together into a coherent whole, helps others extend their thinking, and drives material business advantage. Respected as a credible voice in decision making, finding strategic financing partners and forming partnerships. He is quick to identify and tackle an opportunity that others miss.


Before Stelify Capital Group, he was an engineer who developed and designed treatment solutions in the water and waste management industry. He has led numerous projects in North America working actively with Fortune 500 companies and government municipalities.


He is based in Toronto and holds a Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering from McMaster University.

Himanshu Shukla – Managing Director

Himanshu is a performance driven, strategic-minded sales, marketing and operations leader with over 34 years of demonstrated success in gaining market share through implementation of innovative strategies that influence decision makers and drive success. Consistently succeeds in developing comprehensive strategies to position products, pricing, and marketing to achieve targeted sales growth, while maintaining corporate and brand integrity.


Recognized for utilizing innovative approaches and smart business decisions to achieve market positioning and sales targets in the pharmaceutical, logistics, and overseas recruiting industries throughout Canada, US, UAE, Europe and India. He has strong operational expertise with established corporates and startups transforming them to successful business ventures. He is considered a visionary and builder of top management teams.

Bob Tune – Acquisition Advisor

Bob has spent the past four decades in the capacity of Chief Financial Officer and General Manager in the banking, insurance, advertising, professional services and IT sectors. During this time, he has been helping small to medium sized companies grow and with a view to helping the owners/managers divest their interests.  Bob has experience with structuring corporations and has worked with both private and public organizations. Bob is a seasoned expert in managing corporate structure systems, working with cash management, and managing both HR and non-HR related issues. Out of the office, this ex-hockey coach spends his time in Florida working on his golf swing.

David Mason – Tax Advisor

David Mason is an experienced business leader providing tax and business advice for over 35 years. His clients have included large multi-nationals and Canadian owner-managed businesses and their shareholders. He is a Senior Partner at Deloitte LLP and was previously a partner at Arthur Andersen LLP and has held a number of management and operational roles in both firms including Managing Partner of the Ottawa office of Arthur Andersen. He was the Chief Quality and Risk officer for the Canadian and Chilean Tax practices of Deloitte. He was the managing partner of the Tax practice in Ottawa and also the tax practice leader for the Deloitte private business in the Ontario region.


In his role as client service partner, he has assisted clients with global expansion, helped to negotiate and structure business acquisitions and divestitures, provided advice on business growth and management matters and succession planning. He is known for creativity in tax planning.


David has had a number of board roles including 5 years as Chair of the Board of Governors of Elmwood School, Chair of the Ottawa Board of Trade, Treasurer of the Ottawa Civic Hospital Foundation and Treasurer of the Ottawa Hospital Foundation after the merger of the former with the Ottawa General Hospital Foundation. He played a key role in bringing the merger to fruition. He has also served as the Treasurer of the Ottawa Heart Institute Research Corporation. He has served on the nominating committee for the Community Foundation of Ottawa and the Finance Committee.

Samarth Shukla – Managing Director

Samarth is an experienced engineer and a leader, who is frequently called upon for his technical expertise in areas of plant operations, energy sector, project management, and R&D.


Previously, as Project Manager and Engineer, Samarth led business development and executions of new projects for Nexen CNOOC where he was leading a team to construct and design $50 million worth of industrial plants for the business. During this time, he drove the acquisition of market share from Nexen’s largest competitor to expand their capacity to produce more oil, repositioning Nexen as a recognized and credible player in the oil and gas industry. He began his career as a Chemical Engineer with ExxonMobil and transitioned through the ranks from technical research & development to engineering project development and execution.


Samarth holds a Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering from the Ryerson University and is based in Toronto.

Kevin Van Der Zwaag – Industry Advisor

Kevin has over 32 years of experience in the Machining, Tooling and 3D Printing industry. Currently, he leads VanDerZwaag Machining & Development, a 3rd generation family business as an Operations Manager. The business has been around since the 1950’s and is one of the oldest machine shops in Ontario. His extensive experience and expertise fall in the specialized areas of CAD, CNC and all aspects of machining, tooling and prototypes.


After the North American mold industry was besieged by off-shore mold makers in 2006, Kevin led the company to reinvent itself into an extremely capable versatile machine shop it is today. The company provides highly specialized fixtures, prototypes and component using a wide range of materials including stainless steels, aluminums and exotic engineered plastics and serves various industries with a unique customer base; from startups to Fortune 500 companies.


He’s a strong operation professional with a Mould Maker Certificate focused in machining and mould making from Durham College.
